Hello friends!

I'm April Chips (they/them), and I'm excited to coordinate food for our friend's birthday celebration this Sunday! Instead of doing this solo, I'd love to invite you to join in a collaborative cooking experience I call the "Hobo Soup" method.

What is the "Hobo Soup" Method?

The Hobo Soup method is a communal approach to meal preparation where everyone contributes what they canβ€”ingredients, time, skills, or just good energy. Like the folk tale where everyone adds something to the community pot, we'll create something wonderful together that's greater than what any of us could make alone.

This Weekend's Plan

We're creating a soul-satisfying spread for 20-40 people that includes:

  • Black Bean & Corn Dip with tortilla chips
  • Southern-Style Pulled Chicken Sliders
  • Cajun Shrimp Pasta Salad
  • Soul Food Inspired Collard Green Salad
  • Cheese Board with accompaniments
  • Colorful Fruit Platter
  • No-Bake Banana Pudding Cups
  • Infused Waters & Sweet Tea

How You Can Participate

Saturday Cooking Workshop (1-4pm)

I've arranged to use the church kitchen this Saturday afternoon. You're invited to:

  • Drop off ingredients from our wishlist
  • Join in the cooking (no experience necessary!)
  • Hang out in the beautiful garden or indoor spaces
  • Play board games or work on your own projects nearby
  • Listen to music and enjoy community

Location:Β 15 Overbrook. Right off Tunnel Road by the Subaru Dealership.

You don't have to cook or stay the whole time. Come when you can, leave when you need to. All help is appreciated, but simply being present is a gift too.

Can't Make It Saturday?

You can still participate by:

  • Signing up to bring an ingredient or supply (see wishlist)
  • Helping with transportation to the venue on Sunday
  • Offering a love donation to cover expenses

About Me

For those who don't know me, I have a history of facilitating these collaborative cooking events. When I'm not coordinating food for special occasions, I run a seasonal business called April's Apple Chips and am currently studying tech and digital media at Community College.

This is my first time organizing a collaborative meal in a while, and I'm excited to get back into it! If you enjoy the experience, feel free to spread the wordβ€”I'd love to coordinate more community cooking events in the future.

Next Steps

  1. Check out ourΒ collaborative spreadsheetΒ where you can:
    • RSVP for Saturday's cooking session
    • Sign up to bring ingredients or supplies
    • Volunteer for Sunday transport help
  2. Feel free to reach out with questions, dietary restrictions, or suggestions!

Let's make this birthday celebration delicious and memorable through our collective creativity.

Looking forward to cooking with you!
