The Problem with How We Learn Online

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the internet? You go online to learn something new, and suddenly you're drowning in hour-long videos, 50-page articles, and endless clickbait. It's like trying to drink from a firehose!

Most of us don't have time for this. We need learning that fits into our busy lives - something we can enjoy during a coffee break, on our commute, or while waiting in line. That's why I'm excited to share an idea I've been working on: Knowledge "Chips."

What Are Knowledge Chips?

Imagine if you could save the most useful bits of information you find online - like that perfect explanation of how photosynthesis works, or those three brilliant tips for public speaking - and keep them neatly organized on your phone or computer to read anytime, even without internet.

That's what Chips are: bite-sized pieces of useful knowledge that you can collect, organize, and take with you anywhere. Think of them like digital flashcards, but way more powerful.

Knowledge Chips could be:

  • Simple text files or Markdown documents
  • Styled, formatted, and attractive
  • Containing helpful information on a topic or subject
  • Games, activities, songs, and other types of content
  • Broken up into small units that you can choose, collect, and curate as local files on your device
  • Open source by default, so anyone can view and modify the code

Why This Matters Now More Than Ever

We're living in strange times where:

  • Our attention spans are shrinking (thanks, TikTok)
  • Internet access isn't always available or affordable
  • Some countries heavily censor what people can learn online

Knowledge Chips could help with all of this by creating a new way to share information that's: βœ… Quick to read (like text messages) βœ… Works offline (no internet needed) βœ… Easy to share (just send the file) βœ… Hard to censor (spreads like USB drives)

How It Would Work in Real Life

Let me give you some examples:

1. For Students: Instead of carrying heavy textbooks, you could have all your study materials as Chips on your phone. Your teacher might send a Chip about the water cycle right before a test. 2. For Professionals: Learn new skills in small chunks during your lunch break. A Chip might teach you one Excel formula or give three tips for better meetings. 3. For Parents: Build a library of Chips to answer all your kid's "why" questions - from "why is the sky blue?" to "how do airplanes fly?" 4. For Activists: In countries with internet censorship, people could share important news and educational materials by passing Chips on USB drives.

The Bigger Vision: A "Brainforest"

This is what I call the "Brainforest" - a growing, shared collection of knowledge where:
