But some Texas lawmakers are not happy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Austin was the first city in Texas to launch a\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/universal-basic-income-texas-houston-harris-county-covid-relief-2023-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-tooltip-position=\"top\" aria-label=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/universal-basic-income-texas-houston-harris-county-covid-relief-2023-12\">tax-payer-funded basic income program<\/a>\u00a0when the Austin Guaranteed Income Pilot kicked off in May 2022. The program served 135 low-income families, each receiving up to $1,000 monthly.
