Hi, I\u2019m A. A. Chips, but you can call me Chips. I don\u2019t mind what pronouns you use, but I see myself as two distinct people with separate personalities\u2014one male, one female. I also make apple chips for half the year, which is how the name “Chips” stuck. I\u2019m not like anyone you\u2019ve ever met, and I\u2019m excited to share a bit about myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

10) I Sleep in a Hammock and Absolutely Hate Mattresses!<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

I\u2019ve slept in a hammock for years, and when done right, it\u2019s the best sleep you\u2019ll ever get. Mattresses, on the other hand, are expensive and require a lot of maintenance. They also tend to harbor dust mites, which I\u2019m allergic to. Plus, when you\u2019re done with a mattress, it often ends up in a landfill. If everything falls apart and you need to leave your home, a hammock can almost fit in your pocket. It\u2019s practical, comfortable, and eco-friendly.<\/p>\n

9) I Am English-Spanish Bilingual<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

English is my first language, but I\u2019ve been learning Spanish since I was 11. Over the years, I\u2019ve been surrounded by Spanish speakers and traveled to Latin America. Recently, I\u2019ve had a Sephardic rebirth and embraced Ladino, an old form of Spanish. I\u2019m building a site where I blog about Spanish, Ladino, and culture. 8 ) I Make Cool Snacks<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

I run a seasonal small business called April\u2019s Apple Chips. I take overstock fruit and dry it into crunchy snacks. This past season is almost over, as it\u2019s getting too warm to dry things inside, and apples will be scarce until autumn. Next season, I\u2019ll focus on holiday bulk orders\u2014apple chips make great gifts!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

7) I Am Self-Estranged from My Family of Origin<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

For the most part, I live on my own and have gone no-contact with both of my parents. While this isn\u2019t a joyous part of my life, the fact that I was able to walk away and build my own life absolutely is. I have since created a enriching connected life with people I choose and celebrate to have in my life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

6) My Day Job Is Teaching<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

I work for an after-school program. Locally I am famous among small children. The kids I work with provide me with a clarity and direction of how I live my life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

5) I Am Learning to Code and Do Web Development<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

I\u2019ve earned my Digital Media Level I certificate and my Front-End Web Developer certificate. I\u2019m completing my Back-End Web Developer certificate this upcoming year. This semester, I\u2019m focusing on personal and professional skills development since no courses were offered toward my certificate. I enjoy making websites and tools that improve people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

4) I\u2019ve Worked with LGBTQ+ Refugees Abroad<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Through the internet, I\u2019ve fundraised thousands of dollars for rent, medical, and food relief aid for LGBTQ+ refugees. This is going to be the subject of a future web development project, but I haven’t worked on this content since I went back to school in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n

3) I Used to Be Homeless and Am Now Building a Project to Help Others<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

I was homeless for several years, living out of my car. Now, I\u2019m building a project called\u00a0Heartwarmers<\/em>\u00a0to connect free offerings and services to at-risk individuals. I survived sleeping in my vehicle during cold winters by using reusable water bottles filled with hot water to stay warm. I call these bottles\u00a0Heartwarmers<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Heartwarmers Project<\/em> aims to engage local businesses and organizations to create goodie bags for the homeless, build community partnerships, and map out free amenities for a mobile app. The goal is to reduce stigma and increase helpful engagement with vulnerable populations. 2) I\u2019m Creating My Own Adult Autism Assessment Tool<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A few years ago, I had a terrible experience trying to get assessed for adult autism. As a result, I\u2019ve been building the\u00a0Assessment for Adult Competencies<\/em>\u00a0over the past five years. Instead of focusing on a diagnosis, this tool breaks down “adulting skills” into six categories of day-to-day life and struggle. I plan for this to be my capstone project for my Back-End Developer certificate. 1) I Want to Launch a YouTube Channel and Kickstarter Campaign<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

I\u2019m eager to start a YouTube channel and Kickstarter campaign to make my work go viral. I\u2019m passionate about sharing my projects and helping others through my experiences. This is why I want to take this course in Mass Communication. Keep posted.<\/p>\n
