I’ve had a bunch of people reach out to see if I am alive or ‘safe.’ I’m not sure that we share the same meanings of that word.<\/p>\n

My situation is better than most. We have electricity and wi-fi as of the past two days. No running water.<\/p>\n

I’m fearing the possibility of a septic back up in many places because many people are flushing their toilets with buckets and non-potable water. This approach may work for a few days, maybe a week or more. But the drain water has no where to go. Eventually it will come back up.<\/p>\n

My housing unit is technically unlivable. The people I live with have evacuated. I stayed behind because we have the cat. And I am the most confident in a long-term survival situation.<\/p>\n

We don’t survive these situations as rugged individuals. We have to work with our neighbors to overcome issues. Right now for my personal safety and survival, it is imperative to help my neighbors transition to dry toileting so we do not all have septic backups with a shared sewage system.<\/p>\n

My living space is well kept. I have gasoline in my car. We have electricity and wi-fi. I have groceries. A good support system.<\/p>\n

If you are asking me how I am doing as an individual, you are wasting both of our time. If you are reaching out because you want to support me and the people around me, the best way to do that is donate directly to those who are organizing bulk supply purchases to install cheap dry toilets and latrine education.<\/p>\n
