I\u2019d like to introduce you to an extraordinary person. Jimmy Motavu is a LGBT Refugee from Uganda, living in Nairobi. When I met him during lockdown online he was living in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. Jimmy Motavu has faced unimaginable challenges but remains determined to build a new life for himself in the United States. This post is to share his inspiring story and find possible supporters and sponsors to make a difference as either a Donor, or member of the Sponsorship team with Welcome Corps.<\/span><\/p>\n

Story<\/span><\/h2>\n

My name Jimmy Matovu.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Am a gay refugee living in Kenya.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I ran from my origin country Uganda because of persecution where they wanted to kill me because I\u2019m a gay person and came to Kenya to seek asylum and protection.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s unfortunate that when I reached in Kenya, it was even worse than Uganda as i found a huge number of homophobic people and I have had alot of attacks on me and death threats against me for being a gay person.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

When I reached in Kenya, I registered with UNHCR the Humanitarian refugee agency and I was taken to a refugee camp called kakuma refugee camp in Turkana land which I later escaped from and moved to Nairobi.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Reaching in kakuma refugee camp, life was very challenging and difficult as a gay refugee, I was attacked so many times by the homophobes who wanted to kill for being gay.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I had to face a lot of discrimination from other refugees, I survived a number of deaths trials from homophobic refugees and Kenyan locals.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Life was really so hard for me and I almost lost hopes until when I met a friend from Facebook who i call a savior, April helped me and connected me with other friends and they helped me escape from the camp where I couldn\u2019t live any longer and I moved to Nairobi city.<\/span><\/i>
